Responsibly produced renewable and recyclable materials

Our five pulp mills are located in Finland and Uruguay with a combined annual production capacity of 5.8 million tonnes. Our new mill in central Uruguay started operations in April 2023. All our mills use the best European Union-defined available techniques (BAT) to ensure efficient, reliable and sustainable production. And instead of buying energy, pulp production generates bioenergy – making our mills energy sellers. In fact, UPM is the second largest generator of biomass based electricity in Europe.

Inspired by the limitless opportunities offered by the bioeconomy

We have served our customers for over 100 years, continuously pushing for new ideas at the forefront of development. And we aim to continue the same way. We see a world where pulp is at the heart of the bioeconomy and the enabler of a more sustainable future. Pulp is a renewable and biodegradable raw material – a responsible alternative to many fossil-based materials. In addition, the residues and side streams of pulp production can be turned into new products such as biofuels, biochemicals and bioplastics. The way we see it, our business is all about making fibres for the future.
