During spring, UPM Pulp took part in two tree planting events in China. First in Shanghai, UPM Pulp was invited to support the Finnish-Chinese students’ planting event arranged jointly by the Yangpu District Government, Shanghai Finnish School and Yangpu District Education Bureau. Over 70 people gathered in the Yangpu Park to plant red maple trees. The event celebrated the centenary of Finland's independence and the Finnish tree planting campaign “The Spruce of the Future”. The campaign also looks to the future and the next generation, children and youth. UPM Pulp’s China sales team also took part in the “UPM Tree Planting” event at the Jinshanling Carbon Sink Forest in Beijing in May with about 80 UPM internal and external participants, who planted altogether 160 pine trees. The event was part of the global “UPM Tree Planting” campaign, which was rolled out widely in Finland, Uruguay, China and other countries. UPM has already donated more than 60,000 trees to carbon sink forests through the China Green Foundation.
