Pulp is a renewable and biodegradable raw material used in countless everyday applications. But its potential goes far beyond traditional paper and tissue products. The raw materials of the future also come from pulp production.

 

Consumers are increasingly demanding alternatives to fossil plastics, wanting sustainable and renewable solutions especially in areas like food and beverage packaging.

In addition, the continued rise of the global middle class is growing the need for basic everyday products such as kitchen rolls, toilet paper and personal care products.  While the need for certain types of uses like newsprint and office paper has decreased, the demand for products such as packaging board required for online-retail and home food delivery services has increased.
 
Pulp is part of the solution in all these challenges, and the new innovations in textiles, wound dressings and products produced from our side streams are also revolutionizing the way we think of pulp – whether it’s renewable fillers used in vehicle tires, renewable fuels powering transport or plant-based bottles replacing fossil plastic – a whole range of products are emerging across UPM from the trees that we sustainably grow and harvest.
