UPM Conifer

Bright and clean UPM Conifer is our main BSKP grade. With fibres that are long and slender, UPM Conifer is suitable for various end uses that require strength. Its high reinforcement strength and fast development of tensile strength support reduced refining energy and stable runnability.

Use UPM Conifer especially for:

  • Tissue papers
  • Specialty papers
  • Magazine and fine papers

UPM Conifer Thin

UPM Conifer Thin’s exceptionally high fibre count provides a smooth surface, good formation characteristics and high cleanliness. This pulp is produced from the first thinning wood of pine and spruce that has flexible thin-walled fibres. Fast development of tensile strength and internal bond strength, together with easy co-refining with hardwood pulps, make it an excellent solution for demanding specialty and tissue applications.

Use UPM Conifer Thin especially for:

  • Tissue papers
  • Specialty papers

What is northern bleached softwood kraft pulp?

Trees can be divided into softwoods and hardwoods. Softwood pulp is produced from softwood trees such as pine (Pinus Silvestris) and spruce (Picea Abies). Northern softwood pulp that comes from northern countries such as Finland, Sweden and Canada is known for its long, strong fibres. Our softwood pulp is produced in our Finnish mills in Kymi, Kaukas and Pietarsaari.

Our softwood pulp mills are located in Finland

We produce softwood pulp in three millsKymi, Kaukas and Pietarsaari. UPM Conifer grade is produced at all three mills, while UPM Conifer Thin is produced only at the Pietarsaari mill. Together, these mills provide reliable quality and a high level of supply security for customers worldwide.

What end-products is softwood pulp best suited for?

Softwood pulp fibres are longer than hardwood pulp fibres. The length and slenderness of the softwood fibres provide strength and durability, making softwood pulp suitable for a wide range of end products, such as tissue, board, specialty papers and printing and writing papers.
